Austin’s Fifth Annual Funky Chicken Coop Tour – March 30, 2013

The Funky Chicken Coop(R) Tour Promotes Sustainable Living in Austin

Saturday, March 30th, 2013, 10am-4pm, is the fifth annual Funky Chicken
Coop Tour(R), a self-guided tour held each spring in Austin, Texas. The
FCCT promotes local sustainable food, healthy living, and funky fun,
demonstrating the many ways chickens can be incorporated into an urban
residence. Visit the Information Center at Buck Moore Feed and Supply, 5237
North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas, 78751 to start the tour. Coops include a
variety of construction designs and materials, from recycled creations to
custom coops. Many coops integrate into larger projects, including organic
gardens, sustainability and permaculture efforts, and school activities.

Austin is a great place to raise chickens and a fantastic place to ride a
bike. Explore Austin's urban chicken coops on four wheels or two wheels.
This year, with the help of Bike Austin, the Funky Chicken Coop Tour(R)
will feature the first Tour de Funky Chickens bicycle tour, with guided a
bike ride departing from the Information Center at 11:30am, to a few of the
coops on the tour. Take part in the guided bike tour, or make your own
route.

Each year the FCCT donates a portion of the proceeds to a local
organization. This year highlights two organizations that promote
education, community, and local food: Urban Patchwork and Partners for
Education, Agriculture and Sustainability (PEAS). Buy a map, T-shirt &
raffle tickets to support the cause.

It is recommended you buy your tour map early at
http://austincooptour.org/2013/tickets . Your map is your entry to the
tour. Get a limited edition tour t-shirt, with artwork by Lauren Scheuer,
illustrator and author of the dearly loved Scratch and Peck Blog. Enter the
raffle for a chance at the Grand Prize Omelette House Coop, or a Deluxe
Chicken Mobile Stagecoach, and other prizes from our sponsors. For the
latest in raffle prizes, visit our website at http://austincooptour.org.

Start the day at the Buck Moore Information Center with a free presentation
by Cameron Molberg, of Coyote Creek Farm and Organic Feed Mill, on "Getting
Started With Chickens". Meet Rob Ludlow, owner of BackyardChickens.com from
9-11 am introducing his new book, "Chicken Health for Dummies." Lauren
Scheuer will be there with her new book release, "Once Upon a Flock: Life
with my Soulful Chickens". Connect with the Austin Backyard Poultry Meetup
Group. The Brazos Valley Poultry Club and the Fancy Feathers 4-H Club will
have a variety of exhibition poultry on display, and will be available to
answer all of your poultry questions.
