[Presentation] Thursday, September 4th from 6pm to 8:30pm, the 
City of Austin Planning and Development Review is hosting a community forum entitled, "From Here to There: Setting a Path for Austin's Code." Representatives from Opticos Design and the CodeNEXT team will be there to present their recommended approach for revising Austin's code. Anyone who wants to learn more about the CodeNEXT process and the many ways that it relates to affordability, mobility, and vibrant neighborhoods is welcome to attend. More info>>
 

In.gredients is hosting a block party on Friday.[Block Party] Friday, September 5th from 6pm to 10pm in.gredients is hosting a "First Friday Block Party." There will be live bluegrass music, a 2-on-2 basketball tournament and samples from Haak Winery and Texas Keeper cider. One percent of the sales from the day will go to in.gredients'current nonprofit partner, the Kealing Middle School PTA. More info>>

Also, in.gredients is looking for a new community nonprofit to be its partner for the next six months. Partners receive $.05 for every reusable container that in.gredients customers use during that time period. The world's largest shovel will be inducted into the record books on Saturday.[World Record] Saturday, September 6th from 9am to 11am Garden-Ville is unveiling it's newest piece of art – a 40 foot tall shovel made from recycled materials that have been diverted from the landfill. This 5,000 pound shovel is officially being dubbed "The world's largest shovel," by the Guinness Book of World Records. Garden-Ville is an organic garden supply store that works withTexas Disposal Systems to divert materials from the TDS landfill and then turn them into bird houses and other backyard goodies. The official Guinness World Record ceremony will be held at Garden-Ville's San Antonio location and the first 100 spectators will receive free gardening shovels.More info>>
 

Dr. Michael Tobis will be speaking at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin on Sunday.[Climate Change] Sunday, September 7th from noon to 1pm, the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin will be hosting a public forum entitled, "Why Climate Change is a Hard Problem." Dr. Michael Tobis, who recently retired from a career as a geophysicist studying climate physics, will be speaking about why solutions to climate change have been so hard to come by and will discuss a new path forward for effectively dealing with the problem. More info>>

 

Chicas Verdes will meet this Tuesday at Counter Culture.[Lunch] Tuesday, September 9th from11:45am to 1pm Chicas 

Verdes is hosting a lunchtime networking and socializing session atCounter Culture. In addition to the normal chatting, Brandi Clark Burton will be there to discuss her reactions after seeing the provocative documentary, Cowspiracy, about the environmental and health impacts of raising animals for food. More info>>
