City Council Passes Task Force to Envision Austin’s Energy Plan – 6-0 VOTE!

Council Members Tovo, Morrison and Spelman are proposing a high energy Task Force To help the City Council and concerned citizens evaluate and construct Austin's new energy plan. It would be created and report recommendations to Council by June 30, 2014. This resolution will be on the agenda as Item #24 for the March 6, 2014 City Council Meeting. Plan to go and speak up in favor if you can. If you can't make it in person, use the link below to email Mayor Leffingwell and the Council.

Each Council Member would appoint one Task Force member with experience in energy generation and planning. An additional member would be selected from the Electric Utility Committee (EUC) and the Resource Management Commission (RMC).

With the vote scheduled this Thursday, now is the time to write to the City Council asking their support of this resolution to update Austin's Generation Resource and Climate Protection Plan through 2024. It is critical to have active participation in this process so  that Austin extends it's climate protection goals to take advantage of the rapidly decreasing costs of renewable wind and solar energy compared to the legacy fossil fuels that are warming our planet and scrambling our climate.

This link can connect you to the Mayor and all City Council Members. Please ask them to support Item #24 for the creation of an Energy Plan Task Force. Here's the full text of the proposed resolution.

Now is the time to be heard on these issues and Austin plans it's clean energy future.
