[Volunteer] Saturday, June 13th from 8am to 11am TreeFolks is hosting a volunteer day and hike at its offices on Platt Lane. Volunteers are needed to weed and mulch trees. Afterwards, everyone will be invited to take a hike down to the river, identifying trees as they go. More info>>
 

[Hike] Saturday, June 13th from 8:30am to 10:30am the Friends of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve are hosting a hike through the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve. The preserve is managed by the Nature Conservancy and is designed to enhance the habitat of golden-cheeked warblers and black-capped vireos. Four miles of Barton Creek also flow through the property. Hikers should bring water and wear closed-toe shoes. More info>>

 

[Volunteer] Saturday, June 13th at 9am Keep Austin Beautiful is hosting a Lady Bird Lake cleanup at 20 different locations along the lake. Volunteers can sign up to pick up trash on the shoreline or in the waterway using kayaks and canoes. Plus, the entire event will be followed by a Popsicle Party with GoodPop at The Expedition School. More info>>

 

The Austin Parks Foundation is hosting a cleanup at the Shoal Creek Dog Park.[Volunteer] Saturday, June 13th from 9am to noon the Austin Parks Foundation is hosting a cleanup at the Shoal Creek Dog Park on Lamar Boulevard. Volunteers are needed to clean up flood debris and do some light trail repair work. More info>>

 

The Public Affairs Forum will be discussing the Fukushima meltdown on Sunday.[Energy Talk] Sunday, June 14th from noon to 1pm the First Unitarian Universalist Church is hosting a talk on nuclear energy and the Fukushima meltdown. Two Fukushima evacuees will be talking about their own experiences living so close to a nuclear power plant and explaining what they've learned in the four years since the crisis. There will be a celebration in honor of the Barton Springs Uprising on Sunday.

 

[Party] Sunday, June 14th from 5:30pm to 9:30pm the Save Our Springs Alliance is hosting a party in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Barton Springs Uprising, when over 800 Austinites stormed city hall to oppose a massive development planned for the banks of Barton Creek. The celebration will be held at Barton Springs Pool and will feature live music, speakers, and highlights from the famous all night hearing. More info>>

 


[Happy Hour] Tuesday, June 16th from 5:30pm to 8:30pm is the Solar Austin Happy Hour at Scholz Garten. This month's topic of discussion is the Property-Assessed Clean Energy(PACE) innovative financing program, which enables commercial and multi-family property owners to obtain low-cost, long-term financing for water conservation, energy- efficiency, and renewable energy projects. [Cooking Class] Tuesday, June 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm the Sustainable Food Center is hosting a pickle-making class at its headquarters on East 17th Street. The Hat Creek Pickle Company will be on hand to teach the class all about the art of pickling. Advance registration is requested. More info>>
 


The Texas Water Symposium is next Thursday.[Water Symposium] Thursday, June 18th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm is the Texas Water Symposium at the Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. A panel of experts will be discussing the State Water Plan and offering up tips about how the public can get more involved. More info>>

 


"Just Eat It" will be screened next Thursday.[Film Screening] Thursday, June 18th from 7pm to 9pmthe documentary, "Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story" is being screened at theSheraton Austin Hotel. The film dives into the world of food waste, following one couple's quest to quit grocery shopping and survive only on food that would otherwise have been thrown away. The screening is part of the US Zero Waste Business Council's Creating Value Through Zero Waste Workshop & Training Series, but it is open to the public.
