The Bike Home from Work Party is on Friday at Cheer Up Charlies.[Bike Party] Friday, May 15th from 5pm to 7pm is Bike Austin's first annual Bike Home from Work Day Party at Cheer Up Charlies. The party is in celebration of Bike to Work Day, which encourages commuters to ride their bikes to work. In the morning, there will be 15 fueling stations around town handing out free coffee, snacks, and a Bicycle Passport marking your triumphs. Anyone who arrives at the Bike Home from Work Party with a passport will receive a free Real Ale beer. There will also be live cajun music, free bike valet parking, a bike photo booth, and door prizes.More info>>

 


Hike one of the city's Watershed Protection Lands on Saturday.[Hiking Tour] Saturday, May 16th from 8:30am to 11am the Imagine Austin Meetup group is hosting a hiking tour of one of the City of Austin's Water Quality Protection Lands. Guides will explain the unique geology and ecology of the area and a local entomologist will give pointers on finding, identifying, and understanding the spiders and insects of the land. Participants should wear closed toe shoes, bring along some water, and meet at the Tabor Tract at 4600 Bliss Spillar Road. More info>>

 

Urban Roots is having a farm volunteer day this Saturday.
[Volunteer]
 Saturday, May 16th from 9am to noon Urban Roots is having a volunteer day at its farm. Urban Roots is a youth development organization that provides paid internships to Austin teenagers to work on an urban sustainable farm in East Austin. They also donate 40 percent of their harvest to local soup kitchens and food pantries, but they can't do it all without volunteer help. Volunteers are needed to assist in planting, harvesting, and preparing produce for market. If you're interested in volunteering, please RSVP in advance. More info>>

Students will learn how to make quick, easy, and nutritious food for a baby or toddler. This is the perfect class for busy parents, caregivers or for those who are expecting children soon. Austin Mayor Steve Adler is speaking at the First Unitarian Universalist Church this Sunday.

 

[Eco Forum] Sunday, May 17th from noon to 1pm the First Unitarian Universalist Church is hosting a presentation by Austin Mayor Steve Adler. The mayor will be sharing his experience during his first 100 days in office and answering questions about the environment, water, air quality, traffic, affordability, and more. Austin Creative Reuse is upcycling old maps on Monday.

 

[Craft Meetup] Monday, May 18th from 6:30pm to 8pm Austin Creative Reuse is hosting a free crafting session at the Little Walnut Creek Library. They'll be upcycling old maps into garlands, flowers, gift tags, and more. [Green Building] Tuesday, May 19th from 11am to 1pm Austin Energy Green Building's Green Boots series continues with a class on landscaping for water conservation at the HBA Phillips Center. The class is $20 for Home Builders Association Members and $25 for nonmembers. More info>>

 


[Happy Hour] Tuesday, May 19th from 5:30pm to 8pm Solar Austin is hosting its monthly happy hour at Scholz Garten. Vikram Aggarwal, the chief executive and founder of EnergySage, will be the guest speaker for the evening. EnergySage, commonly referred to as the "Kayak of solar," helps homeowners, businesses and non-profits to easily and quickly request, review and compare competitive quotes for solar PV systems and financing options online.
