First Baptist Church kicks off "Earth Month" 2011
I'm very proud to announce that Austin's First Baptist Church, founded in 1847, begins its second annual "Earth Month" this Sunday.
The month's events includes a series of Sunday morning classes with a focus on broadening the congregation's understanding of ecology, theology, personal action, and social justice issues as they relate to environmental sustainability. (I'm the first presenter-!)
Schedule
Next four Sunday mornings, 930am-1045am:
- May 1 - Ecology, Chris Searles, environmentalist
- May 8 - Theology, Reverend Leigh Jackson, clergy
- May 15 - Personal Action, Anita Gordon, curriculum specialist
- May 22 - Social Justice, Charlotte Bumbulis, goodnewsgoods
Additionally, the Church will be featuring two Wednesday evening classes, 6:00pm-7:15pm:
- May 18 - Green Christians in Texas, Amanda Robinson, TXIPL
- May 25 - The Story of Stuff, Anita Gordon, curriculum specialist
I'm especially proud of this series as it involves a coordinated effort among my friends and co-members of the Church's "Environmental Action Team." Each event is no cost and open to all adults. First Baptist is located at 9th & Trinity streets (downtown Austin, near Congress Ave): map.
Hope to see you!
