Heart beets and heart beats … find them both at Barton Creek Farmers Markets, this Saturday at Barton Creek Mall and Sunday at Highland Mall.  Along with a free community guest appearence by Sara Hickman this special event features: 

            FOOD: Austin Chef Cooking Demos & Food Tastings 

            MUSIC: Austin Live Music including Sara Hickman, Texas State Musician 2010 & J Wagner, , recognized Texas   songwriter and performer

            POETRY: Jena Kirkpatrick,  writes poetry on the spot and Valentine poetry just for you or your sweetheart

            KIDS: Tiny Tails to You Petting Zoo for kids

FOOD:

The Valentine event at both Barton Creek Farmers Markets features local Austin chefs who will be doing cooking demos using vendor’s products – providing tasting of a delicious and nourishing Valentine menu to delight your senses and excite your taste buds.  They will share healthy eating insights and provide tasting for viewers.

·      Winter Squash Soup with Saffron and White Wine ~ this soup has aphrodisiac  properties so watch out!

·      Slow Braised Pulled Pork with Coriander atop Crispy Polenta Triangles with Onion Preserves

·      Mustard Greens with Cream and Nutmeg

The Valentine event at Highland Mall features Leena Dillingham of Leena's Table Tastings:

·      Savory Beef Stew with Fresh Herbs and Seasonal Vegetables

·      Winter Greens Simmered with Ginger, Onions and Cornmeal

MUSIC:

The Barton Creek Farmers Markets music series continues adding great music weekly such as Avenue Elle – finalists in Prairie Home Duet contest, Shelley King – Texas State Musician in 2008, and for the Valentine Celebration, Sara Hickman – Texas State Musician 2010.

·      Saturday, February 9th the Valentine celebration at Barton Creek Farmers Market features The Better Halves opening the morning and later at 11:11 AM special guest Sara Hickman, Texas State Musician 2010.

·      Sunday, February 10th features J. Wagner prestigious songwriter who Austin American Statesman refers to as “The number one best bet” and the Dallas Morning News labels “A Texas Folk Music Staple”.

POETRY:

The Valentine weekend event also features Jena Kirkpatrick, Poet for Hire, poet.  She’ll be tapping out poetry on the spot on her antique typewriter. Kirkpatrick will compose Valentine poetry for attendees and by request read selected poems offering a Valentine Sweetheart special as part of the Barton Creek Farmers Market Music and Entertainment Series.

KIDS:

Tiny Tails To You Petting Zoo brings hedgehogs, chicks, ducklings, bunnies, turtles, a bearded dragon and other small animals. Most weekends also include face-painting and balloon sculpture.

The markets will feature an abundance of sweetheart treats including:

·      Handmade chocolates & truffles by Edis Chocolate

·      Fresh orchids by Spring Orchids at both markets

·      Heart cookies and mini-cakes by Delightful Me Bakery at both markets
