OUR POWER Organizing Meeting: All Hands on Deck For Austin’s Electric Generating Plan

Join community leaders this Saturday for an organizing meeting of

OUR POWER, OUR GENERATION

Saturday, February 15th 10-12 AM

Carver Library, 1161 Angelina St. in Austin.

Guest speakers will include City Council Member Mike Martinez, talking about public hearings and ways that all the communities of Austin can work together for clean energy and clean energy jobs. The event is sponsored by a coalition of Sierra Club, Austin Beyond Coal, Public Citizen and others.

As new records for extreme weather continue to be set in Texas, across the nation and around the world, our supposedly green publicly owned utility, Austin Energy, is still burning coal and is actually proposing to expand the use of natural gas.

Austin Energy is a municipal utility – owned by the citizen shareholders of Austin. Yet, City Council will only act to protect and improve our climate, our local economy and our health if the people of Austin demand action. This is a process where we must engage. We must unite. We must be heard.

As we begin the process of updating Austin Energy’s Generation Plan, we need all hands on deck to push for renewable energy and energy efficiency (which have already reduced rates) instead of polluting coal and natural gas.

We must engage a wide swath of Austinites in this discussion to ensure that smart decisions are made to protect ratepayers not just for the year or two, but for the next decade and beyond.

Furthermore, we aim to use this process as an opportunity to come together to find ways to expand access to the clean economy for marginalized communities, and ensure that if we build it green, we all reap the benefits.

Please join us to discuss our options and how to achieve our goals. Keep up to date on Facebook:  Our Power, Our Generation.
