September/October Garden Planting

 

Austin's first frost is the first week in Dec, and the 'near-in' Hill Country's first frost is the last week in November. That's 60 days to fini – select and buy 50-70 days-to-harvest plants and seeds. Read the plant label or ask the garden center and read the back of the seed packet for "days to maturity."
 
Veggies you can plant within the first two weeks of October and Harvest by Thanksgiving – mid December: 
Asian greens (seeds or transplants)
Beets
Broccoli (transplants)
Brussels Sprouts (transplants)
Cabbage (transplants)
Carrots
Cauliflower (transplants)
Chard, Swiss (seeds or transplants)
Collards (seeds or transplants)
Garlic
Greens, Cool Season
Kale (seeds or transplants)
Lettuce (seeds or transplants)
Mustard (seeds or transplants)
Onion, green/bunching
Peas, English, Snap and Snow
Radish
Shallots
Spinach (seeds or transplants)
Turnip
