City Composting Rebates Available!
The City of Austin Solid Waste Services Green30 Challenge program is encouraging people to downsize their garbage carts and start composting. They will rebate 75% off up to $75 of any compost system purchased between April 22 and August 15, 2010 if the customer: 1. Has a 30-gallon garbage cart (the smallest) or downsizes to 30 gallons (call 3-1-1 to arrange);
2. Completes a compost class (see austinrecycles.com for class schedule) at selected farmer’s market events, and
3. Submits the receipt for an eligible compost system along with the appropriate rebate application form (http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/sws/downloads/green30_composting_rebate_app.pdf).
All rebate application materials must be received by Solid Waste Services by August 15, 2010.
Strategic Information for Austin residents:
a. There is a maximum of $75,000 for this program, or a maximum of 1,000 compost systems. This is a first-come, first-serve opportunity. If there is a strong response, the program may be extended.
b. If you are a SWS customer that already has a 30-gallon garbage cart, you just have to take a class and submit your receipt with the rebate application.
To sign up for a class, please e-mail composting@austinrecycles.com with the names of attendees and the class you’d like to attend.

Purchase After April 22nd
FYI ... The Composter rebate application says that receipts dated between April 22 and August 15 are eligible.
Here's the link to the application: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/sws/downloads/green30_composting_rebate_app.pdf
The rebate also requires you to downsize your garbage cart to the green 30 gallon size and attend a composting class.
If you attended the Compost Class by Solid Waste Services at the Austin Green Living Expo (Sat 4/24 at 4p) that was one of the qualifying classes for the composter rebate.
Here is a link to the list of classes: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/sws/green30_challenge.htm#classes
Note: the last class offered is on August 28th at 2pm at the Austin Fall Home & Garden Show which I produce for Show Technology. I'm putting together a great schedule of Seminars for our Garden Stage for this show (Aug 27-29) as well!
Thanks to Microbial Earth for helping to further the Zero Waste Initiative and for helping us be organic gardeners.
