Crude Awakening is a local peak oil awareness group committed to exploring innovative ways to mitigate our dependency on oil. We meet monthly to discuss various issues of interest to energy policy, individual actions that can contribute to reducing dependency, increasing awareness, and working with other Austin groups to address real energy issues.

On 9 December, John Baker, the Chief Strategy Officer for Austin Energy, will discuss the utility's participation in the Pecan Street Project, and how the project might impact the way electricity is distributed in Austin and how the smartgrid would replace existing electric consumption measuring methods. He will also address the role of the Mueller community, which recently became a candidate site for how a $10.4 mil federal grant, recently announced for the Pecan Street Project, might be deployed to meet the project's goals.

Come join us for discussion followed by a question-and-answer. We are a politically nonpartisan organization, simply trying to work at the grassroots level to improve understanding of the problem of energy resources and to identify possible solutions, at the individual and group level.
