S. K. Rosina Newton, Horticulturist at The Natural Gardener, presents “Organic Vegetable Gardening 101.” Beginning gardeners – or longtime gardeners from other regions of the country – would you like to know the basics of successful vegetable, herb, and flower gardening in Central Texas? Teachers, are you looking for information and inspiration to bring your lessons to life? Learn how to grow your own food – site selection, soil preparation and fertilization, planting methods, pest control, and more! Rosina is a 1984 graduate of Texas A&M University in Horticulture, and has been assisting customers and serving as horticulturist and educator at the Natural Gardener for 13 years. This is a repeat of the class on Thursday, February 11th.

Host(s):
Natural Gardener’s mission is to provide Texas gardeners and landscapers with information on organic gardening methods, along with quality customer service, native and well-adapted plants, and organic gardening products. They have been in business for over 28 years, and have been featured in Texas Highways, Garden Center, Herb Companion, Southern Living, and Fine Gardening magazines. Natural Gardener’s 8-acre site includes demonstration vegetable, herb, and native gardens and an orchard, proving and teaching to the public and professionals that organic methods work. Because this nursery is off the beaten path, an “oasis” design has been developed to attract customers from all over the United States to its Oak Hill setting. What also invites customers to make the trek is owner John Dromgoole’s weekly radio show, “Gardening Naturally,” on KLBJ-AM 590 Saturday and Sunday mornings. On air, he’s been teaching Central Texas listeners how to garden organically for 29 years. This is the longest continuously-running gardening radio show in the country.
