I often hear people talk about the difficulties of going green for the planet because of the cost. I am certainly watching my dollars closely. I find ways to be sustainable without much additional cost, and sometimes I even save money by reusing what I already have. I want to explore more opportunities to increase my sustainability while saving money and where I can spend my hard earned money in the most effective places.

Traditionally, the cost of something is what we initially pay for it. As we are coming to see, there are many more costs to our planet and our society that are unaccounted for in this traditional interpretation. We can now calculate our carbon and ecological footprints on the internet, but how do you put a price on the future health of communities around the globe? How do we find the balance between our pocket book and our planet?

Perhaps you, dear community member have some thoughts and ideas on how we can work towards that balance. Here are a few questions I have been thinking about. Please feel free to post you own questions as well.

What are the costs to communities from toxins, garbage, industrial pollution, shipping, packaging, and so much more!?

How can we reduce our purchases as consumers?

How can we save money through efficiency?

How else can we save money and be sustainable?

When making a monetary investment in an environmentally sustainable product, what exactly are you investing in?

I'd love to hear your ideas...
