An extravaganza of music, performances, art, and talks based upon “The Science of Music"
FEATURING Edible Austin hosting the
Edible Austin Foodie Fest and Tipsy Texan Cocktail Bar!

What was once the (maybe not so) mild-mannered SXSW Interactive EFF-Austin Official After-Party has morphed into a multifaceted extravaganza called “Plutopia”, an exciting convergence of technology, DIY, music, art, and academics. In addition to standard party fare, performance and the arts will play a major role alongside exhibits and talks in presenting the ideas in a way that will make this yet another memorable, stimulating, and fun SXSW after event.

Way beyond the run-of-the-mill “booze and schmooze” after-party mixer, Plutopia is an ever-evolving multimedia experiment of Austin-tatious proportions dedicated to a playful, yet masterful cross-pollination across verticals to bring you an immersive interactive experience event.

Our 2010 theme explores the role of technology, sound and digital media in changing the landscape and narrative of music in the information age.

The science refers to everything from immersive listening and the expanding of audio boundaries and experimentation, to new forms of instrumentation, sampling and remixing and emerging creative processes; and from integrated multisensory systems and interfaces with intelligent networks, to the transformations of aesthetics and the changing rhythm of nature.

Held at the Mexican American Cultural Center on the 15th of March we're featuring DJ Spooky performing the world premiere of a piece he has written based upon Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe – weaving music and visuals together with string theory. Famed Science Fiction author Bruce Sterling will speak to open the event followed by performances from Black Pig Liberation Front, Austin’s own Dr. Strangevibe, and from the China Rocks Tour, Xiao He and White.

Unique to this and only this event, Edible Austin magazine and Tipsy Texan are bringing the heart and soul of Austin’s local foodie scene and cutting edge mixology. Guest s will enjoy artisanal cocktails and food and drink samples from handcrafters such as Tito’s and Dripping Springs Vodka, Treaty Oaks Rum, Pepe’s Z and Republic Tequila, Independence and St. Arnold Breweries, Zhi Tea, Rio’s Brazilian, Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, Aurelia’s Chorizo, Buddha’s Brew Kombucha and more! Also on hand will be food carts from addictive local eateries Eastside Pies, Kerbey Lane Café, Thai Fresh, and Torchy’s Tacos.

Rounding out the interactivity of the event, Austin favorites the Robot Group will be on hand with their unique spin on computing and robotics, while Toy Joy will feature a bouncy pony corral, 3-D glasses and other fun toys to play with. Interactive Entertainment Systems will make those 3-D glasses really pop the visuals thanks to their spectacular lighting and projection as well as an installation of the highly interactive Synth-A-Beat, which allows the user to interrupt light beams to trigger cool sound/music and lighting effects.
