Public Gets Chance to Meet Sustainability Officer Finalists
The City of Austin will host two opportunities June 3 for the public to meet and ask questions of finalists for Chief Sustainability Officer, a new position charged with overseeing the City’s environmental initiatives.
The sessions will be from 2:30-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at Town Lake Center, 721 Barton Springs Road, Assembly Room No. 130. Free parking will be available in TLC garage as well as across the street in the Palmer Events Center garage.
Six semi-finalists of the 185 applicants will be interviewed next week by various City management and City staff before the June 3 meet-and-greet sessions. The six semi-finalists being interviewed are:
- Lucia Athens, Senior Sustainable Futures Strategist, Collins Woerman – Seattle, Washington
- Brandi Clark, Founder and Chief Inspiration Officer, Austin EcoNetwork, Founder Citizen Gardener and Founder and President, EcoNetworking - Austin, TX
- Natalie Marquis, General Manager, Habitat Suites Hotel, Austin, TX; Executive Director, Texas Solar Energy Society - Austin, TX
- Dennis Murphey, Chief Environmental Officer - City of Kansas City, Missouri
- Beth Pratt, Director of Environmental Affairs, Xanterra Parks & Resorts at Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
- Matt Watson, Energy Policy Specialist, Environmental Defense Fund, Washington, DC
Two or three candidates are expected to be chosen as finalists for the general public sessions. For more information on the format and content of the Public Forums, click here.
City Manager Marc Ott will consider the stakeholder input when making a final selection for the position.
The Sustainability Officer will develop, coordinate and administer various sustainability/conservation programs both within the City of Austin organization and for the general public.
Issues will include green purchasing; energy, water and resource conservation; solid waste recycling; green building; green house gas reduction; renewable resources; government funding; and environmental reporting metrics.
