In light of Hopenhagen and addressing climate change, our environ blogger Chris Searles has written on Renewing Austin's Climate Commitment. From the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change two years ago, Austin's City Council unanimously approved a climate protection plan that had the mission, “to make Austin the leading city in the nation in the fight against climate change.”

However, Austin still gets 1/3rd of its energy from the Fayette coal plant, one of the worst polluters in Texas- and a plan to keep doing so for at least the next 11 years. We Austinites need to acknowledge as a community that this is our defining moment -- and agree to discuss moving forward as a whole. The time is now- first read the newest blog post from Chris Searles and then take action!
