Why doesn't everyone have chickens?
I think chickens are awesome, too! For people interested in learning more about raising chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, guineas, or other backyard poultry, Austin has a Backyard Poultry meetup. It is free, and we meet once a month in person to visit and learn about a related poultry topic.
More info at:

And...for those who want to see raising chickens in the city in action first, the 3rd Annual Austin Funky Chicken Coop Tour will be held 4/23/2011. The tour is free to visitors and is basically a time when people who raise chickens or other backyard poultry graciously open their backyards to showcase their coops and birds. Requirements and information for entering a coop, becoming a sponsor, or volunteering are all at the Coop Tour Blog at:
Chickens are way cool and they eat all the bugs. Me love some chickens.
I am building a quail coop this spring! (I just have to be different)
Why don't I have chickens? One word: Raccoons.
Not. Happy. With. The. Raccoons.
there are so many chickens in my neighborhood, that i feel like everyone does have chickens... is that just an east side thing??
yay for chickens!!

Well I have chickens and I had raccoons - of course I had to dispense with the raccoon (caught about 7 squirrels, 2 cats, 2 oppossums in the process) before I transplanted that lovely raccoon. It was a great series of adventures. I'd like to invite anyone who wants to come get some chicken love to come and visit me.
