1 house at a time work event

We are excited to announce the sixth 1house at a time work event of 2011 on Thursday, June 9 from 1 to 5 PM! With a generous grants from Applied Materials Foundation and Shelter with spirit and home energy auditing services from Pro Energy Consultants, we are working on the home of Mrs. Sosa in Northeast Austin.

Don't miss Daniela Ochoa of City of Austin's Solid Waste Services who will be giving a composting workshop. Attending the workshop, combined with reducing your COA trash container to 30-gallons will qualify you for a 75% rebate (up to $75) on a composter. As an added incentive, we will be holding a drawing for a free composter for any volunteer willing to make a commitment to reduce their environmental footprint.

Volunteers will be completing the following jobs:

Patch hole in bedroom wall
Caulk ceiling light box in hallway
Caulk fireplace
Seal hole behind washing machine and doggy door
Seal dryer vent and install external dryer vent cover
Seal gap between the HVAC registers and the sheetrock
Install weather stripping on HVAC closet door.
Install weather stripping in external bedroom door
Install foam insulators on all out outlets & light switches
Replace incandescent bulbs with CFLs
Install radiant barrier sheeting under roof deck
Install dryer vent cover
Install aerator in guest bath sink
Install low flow shower head in guest bath
Install dual flush toilet converters in both bathrooms
Install high efficiency washer
Install gas dryer
Replace broken range hood
Install handrail at back door
Replace exterior door panel to external storage room
Repair hole in siding
Reduce waste container size from 60 to 30 gallons
