Slow Money Movie Screening: Fresh + Potluck
Slow Food Texas is happy to invite you to join us at a wonderful gathering at the UT Concho Community Garden for a 3-part film series and potluck. (Address: 2108 Concho St. 78722) Each movie will precede with a potluck at 6pm, followed by the film screening around 6:30pm. We will have chairs and blankets, but if you want comfier lawn chairs or your own blanket space then the more the merrier! The first screening will take place this Thursday with the movie Fresh. FRESH, "celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet." Forks Over Knives on April 19th, "examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods." And then the Real Dirt on Farmer John on April 26th is sure to be a fun time with, "the epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. Castigated as a pariah in his community, Farmer John bravely transforms his farm amidst a failing economy, vicious rumors, and arson. He succeeds in creating a bastion of free expression and a revolutionary form of agriculture in rural America." Also sponsoring the event is The Campus Environmental Center, The Student Nutritional Awareness Campaign, Slow Food UT, The Food Studies Project (aka the UT Food Community), Oxfam UT, and the UT Gardening Committee. Each is likely to include interesting guests ready for stimulating conversation, so we hope to see you and your potluck dish there for a phenomenal month of documentaries among delicious food and interesting people!
