At TDS, we believe that environmental responsibility does not only relate to recycling and landfill diversion, but also to the manner in which land filled materials are handled, and the standards to which the landfill is held. Our landfill, located in south east Travis County has been in existence since 1991. Our environmental record stands above the crowd. The TDS landfill has never been fined for a single environmental violation.

In 2008, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) named TDS the GOLD recipient of the top Landfill Management Award.

TDS has worked diligently over the past 20 years to design, permit and operate a showcase landfill, recycling and composting facility. TDS has demonstrated that a large solid waste composting, recycling, and disposal facility can be a good neighbor and a major asset to the community. In addition, The TDS landfill has authorization from the TCEQ to operate a full-scale, active windrow composting facility on the property that includes our landfill. TDS diverts approximately 175,000 tons of wood waste to this facility from our landfill annually.

Additionally, TDS takes food waste from specific sources and diverts it from the landfill and composts this material as well. Some notable organizations that utilize composting of food waste are Whole Foods, the Austin Marathon, and the Austin Wine Festival. TDS also has two composting facilities in San Antonio and one in Victoria. TDS composts the City of San Antonio and the City of Victoria’s bio solids to make a compost sold as Coastal Grow and Alamo Grow. TDS makes compost and mulch products that are sold in our Garden-Ville stores. Garden-Ville is a fifty year old company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of TDS selling all natural, chemical-free composts and mulches throughout the Central Texas region and beyond. TDS Green Event Services

Make your next event a “GREEN EVENT” with a 100% turnkey, trash, recycle and composting program.

Having TDS Green Event Services partner with your organization for events can strengthen your image of being a leader in innovative “Green” programs. Some central Texas communities require that your event be environmentally friendly and ask that you provide documentation to comply with the city’s requirements. When you use TDS Green Event Services, we provide you with detailed reports of the amount of material your event has diverted from the landfill.

TDS can provide recycle, trash and compost receptacles, compostable bags, as well as a full staff to service your “Green Event.” The level of service is completely up to you. Services are done in the background without interrupting or interfering with your event. After the event, we bring the material to our site in Southern Travis County, where we separate all of the items and make sure they are processed correctly, by weighing each product, and giving a detailed report on how much material was diverted from the landfill.

By using TDS Green Event Services, the documentation provided after your event regarding the amount of waste diverted from the landfill could be published as positive media attention for your organization. Events that TDS Green Events Services have been involved with have been featured in news coverage from networks such as Austin CBS KEYE TV, Austin FOX 7 News, KXAN Austin and 1530AM ESPN Austin. The rate of diversion depends on the event, but has been as high as 83%.

TDS Green Event Services helps you by:

• Supply you with containers to collect trash and recyclables during the event.

• Provide education to your volunteers prior to the event on the proper handling of the materials during the event.

• Supply consultation as to which items are suitable for compostable recycling.

• Supply paper goods (i.e. cups, utensils, bags) for the event to increase your recycling options and diversion from the landfill.

• Provide the labor to run the waste and recycling part of the event for you.

• Supply you with a place to take your trash and recyclables after the event.

• Transport those materials to our facility for proper disposal and recycling.

• Provide reporting at the end of the event showing the weight of all materials that were disposed of in the landfill and those that were recycled.

• Sell trees to your Organization to plant after the event in order to offset your carbon footprint.
