Uplift Austin
UpLift Austin (UA) offers an innovative educational program to underserved high schools, introducing students to promising “green” careers, while designing and implementing projects to promote an environmentally sustainable campus. UA leverages local professionals to offer guest speakers, field trips, and a vast array of student-led campus improvement projects. Such projects may include outdoor classrooms, edible landscapes, recycling and rainwater harvesting systems. UA helps students build green career paths out of poverty while simultaneously transforming under-privileged schools into models for sustainable living.
UpLift Austin's has three central goals:
• Increase the environmental stewardship and awareness of young adults
• Expose underprivileged youth to green careers, increasing their chances of securing rewarding jobs in a booming economic sector.
• Assist in facility improvements that foster healthy, inspiring learning environments while utilizing the schoolyard to create outdoor learning spaces. UpLift Austin will assist the schools in creating spaces that are healthier for both people and planet.
