Urban Roots
Urban Roots is a youth development program of the non-profit YouthLaunch that uses sustainable agriculture to transform the lives of young people and to increase access to healthy food in Austin. Urban Roots hires high school age youth as "Farm Interns" to work on Saturdays and after-school in the spring and for six weeks in the summer to grow food for the community on their land. 40% of the harvest is donated to hunger relief organizations and 60% is sold at farmers’ markets. In addition to learning about food, youth learn leadership and public speaking skills. http://www.youthlaunch.org/programs/urbanroots.php
